You can password protect any directory that is under your www directory.
Telnet to your server, and log in using your username and password.
At the Unix prompt, type: pass
When prompted, enter the full path to the directory you want to protect (such as /usr/home/user ID/htdocs/members)
If you haven't setup protection for this directory yet, you'll be asked to enter a prompt for you users to see. Whatever you enter here will show up in the pop-up box that asks for their username and password.
When prompted, enter in the username of the person you want to add as having access to the secure directory, or leave it blank and press enter to stop the program.
When prompted, enter in a password for that user, then enter it again when prompted.
To remove a user from your password file (i.e., to remove the access of that person to your protected directories), simply edit the .htpasswd file located in your access directory. In this file, you'll see usernames followed by a colon (:) and a password string. The string is the password you entered by the command "pass" encoded in a way to protect the access rights. To remove the privileges of a user, erase the line containing his/her username. Be sure to keep the file in plain ASCII, and not to change ANYTHING else.
Just create a normal page call missing.shtml and place it in your www directory. If you want it to show the page that was attempted, use the following tag:
